The Venaseal system uses a surgical adhesive to treat venous insufficiency and varicose veins.

Venaseal is a surgical adhesive used for varicose vein treatment and the treatment of venous insufficiency. Dr. Malvehy provides Venaseal treatment for patients from all across California in our office located in the East San Francisco Bay Area. Approved in 2016, Venaseal has been performed over 100,000 worldwide. Venaseal is appropriate for patients with varicose veins, leg pain, venous ulcers, leg cramping, and other symptoms of chronic venous insufficiency and may be an alternative to laser vein treatment in selected patients. Dr. Malvehy will tell you if you are a candidate for Venaseal during your initial consultation.

Dr. Malvehy performs over 500 major vein treatments, including Venaseal, every year for a variety of different conditions and seeks to make the process as comfortable for patients as possible, anticipating points of discomfort and mitigating them before they even occur. Treatment typically takes 30-45 minutes and may be combined with minimally invasive varicose vein removal and sclerotherapy as part of your customized treatment plan. Using ultrasound guidance, local anesthetic is delivered around the target vein. The Venaseal intravenous surgical adhesive is then introduced under ultrasound guidance to ensure the correct area is closed. The entire procedure is performed without making incisions in the skin and results in no scarring.  Patients can drive themselves home after treatment and may immediately resume normal activity. Venaseal does not typically require a compression stocking to be used. Most patient who undergo Venaseal have durable improvement in their varicose veins, often lasting a lifetime.

For patient who have failed laser vein treatment or surgeries in other centers, Dr. Malvehy performs revision laser vein treatment and Venaseal, correcting procedures that may have been performed elsewhere.

Venaseal varicose veins is covered by Medicare and Blue Shield of California for patients with pain, swelling, or venous ulcers.

“Dr. M was awesome and very thorough. He doesn’t pressure you into anything that you are not comfortable with. Him and his staff makes you feel right at home and at ease. They are so kind and Dr. M is hilarious with his analogies. Results were instant after treatment. I highly recommend him!”
